Stencils Are A DIY Solution To Revitalize An Old Tabletop

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends!  Make your dining room table instantly more charming with a stencil.  There’s no need to live with a dingy or dated dining table when updating your table is so easy using one of our furniture stencils.   We have over 70 furniture stencil patterns to choose from to help customize your project and our blog is filled with DIY furniture inspiration. In fact, today we’re going to share two stenciled dining table makeovers.

We’d like you to meet Brynna, the creative gal from Short and Sweet. While living in Shanghai, China, Brynna was excited when she found a huge, long, rectangular dining room table. The wooden table fit perfectly in her space.  Then one cold winter night, her perfect sized table cracked in half.  The wood split due to the cold nights. Rather than toss it aside, Brynna repaired it.  She moved the beloved piece of furniture back to the US with her family.  As the cracks continue to spread, Brynna decided it was time to give it a makeover.  She sanded down the top and filled the cracks with wood filler.  She decided that a fresh coat of stain and a stencil was the perfect way to freshen up her old table.  Brynna browsed our large online stencil collection and purchased the Bon Appetit! Wall Stencil.  With her stencil in hand she was ready for the fun part. She centered the stencil on the top and taped it down using blue painter’s tape.  Brynna painted the whimsical pattern using white acrylic paint.  Once the stencil was dry, she applied three coats of General Finishes Java gel stain.  To complete this project, Brynna used the General Finishes oil and urethane topcoat. She said, ” Gorgeous. I can’t wait to find some dining chairs worthy of this awesome table. Truly, we will never be parted!”

Next up, we want to introduce Jamie, the creative DIYer from Wags to Riches. Jamie bought a wooden dining room table about a year ago and had it sitting in her storage area.  It was strong and sturdy but had come from a child learning center so it had been well-loved.  Jamie decided it was time to give some new life to this old piece.  She sanded the dining table down and painted the legs using Waverly Chalk Paint in Agave.  Jamie chose to stencil the top of the table using the Paisley Allover Stencil.  She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and painted the paisley pattern in Waverly Cashew Chalk Paint.  After the painted stencil was dry, she applied a coat of Minwax Stain in Dark Walnut. To ensure the pattern would last, Jamie coated the table with Minway Polycrylic.  She also added some stenciled paisley detail to the chairs.  We think it looks fantastic!
